From my childhood until now, I have been marked by many songs and genres that certainly has an impact in my musical approach. My way of listening to music is that I don’t really want to know what I’m listening. I feel like it might influence my tastes if I hear something from an artist that I have decided that I like. I enjoy listening to online radios sorted by genre depending on my mood rather than look for a specific artist.
With an American Father who loves the 60’s, I grew up hearing many hits from this time : The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Platters, The Pink Floyd and many others.
I began to listen and appreciate Jazz at around 15 years old. Here are a few masters that had a significant impact on me : Herbie Hancock, Michel Petrucciani, Dave Brubeck, Tommy Flanagan, Louis Armstrong, Stéphane Grappelli.
The great masters such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi Rachmaninov, etc…
This is a tough one, and it might sound really strange after quoting Classical composers. Rather than artists, I have enjoyed listening to minimal progressive, psychedelic trance, drum’n bass, ambiant, and many other underground tracks. A few artists would be : Biocratic, Deadmaus, Skrillex, Helios, Liquid Ace and Lapalux.
Film Music and Cartoons
John Williams is definitivly my number one favorite film composer, probably because his orchestration has so much Jazz in it. Other composers naturally include James Horner, Danny Helfman and Hans Zimmer.
Cartoon Music from the 50’s and greatly impresses me : Tom And Jerry and Tex Avery Tracks are incredible !
Let’s just throw in here anything else I can think about : Jamiroquai, Sphongle, Aphex Twin, Amon Tobin oh and Silence. I love silence, no, that’s not a music band, I mean the actual absence of sound.
